Pedestrian Safety Improvement Plan for San Carlos Avenue (City of San Carlos)

Potential pedestrian improvements to San Carlos Avenue between Beverly Drive and Prospect Street were evaluated by W-Trans, with pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular circulation issues evaluated and a walking audit performed to assess the existing conditions along the corridor.  The project included data collection, a survey of existing conditions, review and analysis of pedestrian infrastructure, public outreach, and development of a preferred corridor plan.  Alternatives were developed that improved pedestrian and bicycle travel along the corridor while maintaining vehicular circulation and were presented to both the Transportation and Circulation Commission and City Council to gather feedback and public input leading to the development of the preferred corridor plan.  The preferred corridor plan included improved access to Arundel Elementary School, shorter pedestrian crossing distances, updated bicycle lane design, and vehicle traffic calming measures.
