14 Feb Pedestrian Crossings Safety Study for Bodega Avenue (City of Sebastopol)
W-Trans was tasked with evaluating pedestrian crossing safety at existing marked crosswalks at uncontrolled intersections on Bodega Avenue, a city cross town regional route. The process included vehicle traffic volume data counts, pedestrian crossing counts, vehicle speed surveys, examination of collision records, warrant analysis and field reviews. The Warrant Evaluation was completed to determine the extent of appropriate improvements including Traffic Signals, Pedestrian hybrid beacons (HAWK), In-Roadway Warning Lights (IRWL), Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB), refuge medians, and/or High Visibility crosswalk markings and signs. Recommendations were made at the five study intersections for enhancements. W-Trans then prepared construction plans for these improvements which included a HAWK, RRFBs, refuge medians, signing and striping, and traffic calming elements.
