Old Redwood Highway Complete Street Improvements (Town of Windsor)

Old Redwood Highway Complete Street Improvements (Town of Windsor)

Old Redwood Highway traverses all of Windsor and most of Sonoma County, including the newly redesigned and constructed segment bordering the Windsor Town Green.  W-Trans assisted the Town of Windsor with traffic operational analyses, design and implementation services for this segment and its Complete Street improvements, which were installed as part of the Bell Village development.  The project included two roundabout-controlled intersections, high visibility green-colored bike lanes, back-in angled parking, wide sidewalks and boardwalks, and two pedestrian-activated warning-enhanced crosswalks.  Following installation of the improvements, W-Trans assisted the Town with outreach and education for the back-in angled parking challenge which was the first application of this orientation in Windsor.  The project transformed Old Redwood Highway from a 40-mph through-traffic corridor to the new main street of Windsor, with low-speed pedestrian oriented activities connecting the Town Green with the new market and retail center across ‘the highway’.
