Lower Russian River Trail Feasibility Study (County of Sonoma)

Lower Russian River Trail Feasibility Study (County of Sonoma)

Sonoma County Regional Parks undertook this effort as the first step toward developing a Class I path along the Russian River corridor to provide a bicycle and pedestrian facility to serve residents and visitors. The study area included River Road and State Route 116, a heavily traveled corridor with speed limits of up to 55 mph. As a subcontractor to Alta Planning and Design, W-Trans developed concept designs for trail crossings at four intersections, including two potential roundabouts. Parallel low-volume streets were evaluated as on-street alternative routes, and cross-sections were prepared for potential on-street sections of the trail through Guerneville, the area’s major activity center. The project received an APA Award of Excellence in the Innovation in Green Community Planning category.
