POSITION SUMMARY

 

W-Trans is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to provide part-time on-call services to local agencies, including occasional on-site services. This position will be responsible for applying thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures for design criteria, roadway safety and crash analysis methodologies, and operational analysis to complete complex, unique and challenging projects. The position also includes review and analysis off traffic engineering studies and recommending viable solutions.

 

This person will work closely with agency staff in various positions as well as communicating with citizens, the development community, and policymakers.  Providing presentations at community meetings may also be required. The ideal candidate may be tasked with developing traffic safety programs and projects, making sound engineering recommendations, and assisting with providing technical engineering alternatives and solutions to issues identified by agency staff and residents.

 

The position requires strong project management skills, leadership qualities, and technical knowledge in traffic engineering with a proven track record of successfully working with various stakeholders; excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking and presentation skills; the ability to provide prompt, effective and courteous customer service; conduct thorough research; work independently, and manage multiple time-sensitive projects/tasks.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PE license
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in traffic operations, design, or transportation engineering
  • Professional experience working in the public sector; communicating with citizens, policymakers, and various stakeholders
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures for design criteria, roadway safety and crash analysis methodologies, and operational analysis
  • Ability to provide prompt, effective, and courteous customer service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including client interaction, public meeting/workshop presentations and facilitation
  • Ability to conduct thorough research; work independently, and manage multiple time-sensitive projects/tasks

 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of experience in Northern California
  • Experience in both training and overseeing staff
  • Familiarity with transportation funding
  • Experience working for a Public Agency
