2021 Internships

Position Summary

W-Trans provides traffic engineering and transportation planning services throughout the Bay Area and California from offices in Santa Rosa and Oakland.  Our aim is to provide services that are inclusive and encompass the mobility needs of all potential users by balancing the technical needs and functionality of traffic with the desire of communities to create more livable streets and sustainable transportation systems.

W-Trans is seeking traffic engineering/transportation planning interns for the firm’s Santa Rosa and Oakland offices.  Like 2020, our summer internships may be virtual in 2021. Students majoring in transportation engineering/planning or another related field, who have completed coursework in these fields, and have a desire to further their education with additional training and support in a fast-paced consulting environment are ideal candidates!  W-Trans interns are exposed to a wide variety of tasks, in as many areas as possible, under the guidance of registered professionals in order to provide a well-rounded glimpse into transportation engineering and planning. We are proud to provide a hands-on experience where interns are exposed to real world concepts and applications used in the industry as we see your internship as an investment in the community of transportation professionals.  Although the internship may be virtual, we strive to provide our interns with a meaningful and educational experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Standing as a Junior or Senior working towards a Bachelors degree, or Graduate Student working towards a Masters degree, in the field of Civil or Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning
• Relevant coursework in Transportation Engineering/Planning or other related field
• Strong aptitude for computer and software applications
• Competency using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other common software
• Excellent writing and communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior internship experience
• Ability to use AutoCAD
• Familiarity with ArcView GIS
• Experience using Synchro, Vistro, HCS, or other transportation software
• Experience with Transportation references such as HCM, ITE Trip Generation, MUTCD, AASHTO ”Green Book”, Caltrans Highway Design Manual, etc.
• Civil/transportation design and drafting experience

These are part- to full-time non-benefitted positions.  Salary will be commensurate with the level of experience.
