W-Trans provided traffic engineering design services to the City of Cotati to implement the initial phase of a walkable vision plan for a two-block section of their downtown. Key issues included traffic circulation, parking, traffic calming and pedestrian safety along Old Redwood Highway, which functions both as the downtown main street for Cotati and as a regional through traffic facility. The project was constructed in 2001 and includes diagonal parking and edgeline striping to allow for functional parking maneuvers, mid-block crossings and curb extensions, and geometrics that regulate speed into a downstream high-capacity intersection. A gateway roundabout was conceptually designed and incorporated into a simulation for future consideration.
